MUSIC

Music Curriculum 2023-2024

Our Music Curriculum is delivered through our Musical Partners Preludes. They provide curriculum lessons to all year groups within the school.

Intent:

In our Primary School, the intent for music education is rooted in providing a rich and diverse musical experience for all pupils. We aim to instil a lifelong love and appreciation for music, nurturing creativity, self-expression, and cultural understanding. Our curriculum is carefully designed to ensure that pupils develop a deep understanding of various musical genres, styles, and traditions, enabling them to become confident and proficient musicians.

Implementation:

Curriculum Design:

Our music curriculum is thoughtfully structured to progressively build on pupils' skills, knowledge, and understanding as they move through each key stage. It covers a broad range of musical elements, including performance, composition, listening, and appraising. Lessons are engaging and interactive, incorporating a balance of practical activities, theoretical concepts, and real-world applications.

Quality of Teaching:

Music lessons are delivered by knowledgeable and passionate specialists who inspire and motivate pupils to explore their musical talents. Teachers use a variety of teaching strategies to cater to different learning styles, ensuring that all pupils are actively involved and making progress. Opportunities for group collaboration, individual creativity, and peer feedback are embedded within each lesson.

Extracurricular Provision:

Outside of the curriculum, we offer a range of extracurricular activities and opportunities for pupils to further develop their musical abilities. These may include choir, orchestra, music clubs, and performances in school and the wider community. We encourage participation from all pupils, regardless of their previous musical experience, fostering inclusivity and a sense of belonging.

Impact:

Pupil Progress and Achievement:

The impact of our music provision is evident in the progress and achievement of our pupils. Through regular assessments and performances, we track individual development and celebrate successes. Pupils demonstrate increased confidence and skill in performing, composing, and appreciating music, showcasing their musical talents with pride.

Cultural Enrichment:

Our music curriculum celebrates diversity and promotes cultural enrichment by exploring music from a range of traditions and backgrounds. Pupils develop a respect for cultural differences and an understanding of the cultural significance of music. They engage with music from different eras, countries, and communities, broadening their perspectives and fostering a sense of empathy and inclusivity.

Community Engagement:

Music plays a vital role in connecting our school with the wider community. Through performances, collaborations with local musicians, and participation in community events, our pupils have opportunities to share their musical talents and contribute positively to society. This engagement not only enhances the reputation of our school but also strengthens community ties and promotes a sense of pride and belonging among pupils, parents, and stakeholders
