Expressive Arts and Design
Art Gallery
We presented our artwork from our Art STEAM Day to the whole school! We used Andy Warhol's pop art style to print our own images of our hands, and we created self portraits inspired by his colourful prints of famous people.
We also shared our collaborative Starry Night painting from our Art through Movement unit.
Art through movement - With 'Starry Night' by Vincent Van Gogh as our inspiration, we have been exploring different ways of moving our tools and paint to create shapes. We used paintbrushes and string to create swirls that resembled the night sky. We also used white and black paint to change the shades of our paint colours, creating lighter and darker blues.

Sculpture - We have designed and created mini beasts using clay. We started by using playdough to develop our sculpting techniques, using vocabulary such as 'roll' and 'squeeze', then transferred these skills to the clay to make our mini beasts. We tried to keep our clay in one piece by pinching different parts of the clay to make the features of the bug. Our understanding of the differences between 2D and 3D shape helped us to make sculptures that were not flat.

Collage - We have been creating lots of wonderful artwork to tell each other 'All About Me', including family portraits and self-portraits using collage skills. We focused on ripping, tearing and sticking different colours to create realistic portraits.

Colour - We have explored colour and colour mixing through the use of paint. We have used different types of paint to identify primary colours, mix secondary colours, and then created colourful paintings inspired by the artist Yayoi Kusama.
Performance - We have enjoyed performing in our performance area. We have been playing instruments, dancing and acting out stories.
