Term 1 - What makes me special?


This term we will be reading lots of stories to support our listening and understanding.


We will begin our term by reading 'Flotsam' by David Wiesner as a whole school. We will then be moving on to 'Dogger' by Shirley Hughes and 'Toys in space' by Mini Grey to support our topic about Toys. In Year 1 we will be exploring these texts by predicting what we think might happen in the story, what information we can get from the pictures and text and thinking about the characters feelings. 


In Reception we will be exploring the texts above however, we will also be reading 'Owl Babies' by Martin Waddle. We will be discussing our own families and where we live. Another story we will be focusing on is 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas. This story has a main focus on feelings which we will be discussing as a class. 


Term 2 - Why do we wear clothes?


This term we will be reading the story 'Traction Man' by Mini Grey to support our Science learning. We will be using this story to help us write letters, party invitations and also to design a spacesuit for Traction Man! 


We will also be learning how to be authors and writing our own version of the Gingerbread Man. We will be using time connectives in our writing to think about what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story. 


In our school allotment we have grown our very own pumpkin!! We will be reading the story 'Pumpkin Soup' by Helen Cooper to inspire us to make our very own pumpkin soup. 

Term 3 - How did Ada Vachell help people in Bristol?



During this term we will be exploring how Ada Vachell helped people in Bristol. We will be linking our English texts to this topic by reading 'Mermaid' by Cerrie Burnell and 'What happened to you?' by James Catchpole. 


We will also be reading the whole school text 'Belonging' by Jeannie Baker. We will be discussing where we live and what do we do to show that be belong in our community.
